Osamu Akimoto (Japanese: Qiu Ben Zhi, Hepburn: Akimoto Osamu, born on the 11th of December 1952) is a Japanese manga artist from Katsushika, Tokyo. Most famously, he is known for his comedy series that ran for a long time Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen- mae Hashutsujo which was being published by Weekly Shonen Jump for 40 years, from 1976 until the year 2016. With 1,960 chapters that were collected into 200 tankobon volumes it was given the Guinness World Record for “Most volumes published for a single manga series” in the year 2016. By the time February 2012 arrived the manga had sold more than 150 million copies, making it one of the most popular manga series ever.

In the year 2016, Akimoto received the 64th Kikuchi Kan Prize for creating Kochikame for 40 years, without breaks. In the next year, he won the Special Prize at the 21st Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for the Kochikame series.

Then, in February of 2014, the artist sketched the single-page “Vocalo” which is set 50 years post-the rise of Vocaloid technology. The story was published in the manga magazine Shojo Margaret. The next the year Grand Jump published his “Arii yo Ju wo Ute!” one-shot in January of 2015.
