Orlando Lightfoot (born December 4 1974) is a former American professional basketball athlete who’s international career spans from 1993-95 as well as 2006-07. The most well-known player throughout the United States for his collegiate time with the University of Idaho between 1991-92 and 1993-94, during which time the double-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Year. He finished as the top scoring player in the history of the conference (2,102 points which was later broken). After his basketball career ended, the player has taken on the role of Account Manager for the trucking business located in his hometown in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Lightfoot wasn’t selected during his 1994 NBA Draft. Instead of attempting to play for various NBA teams with the hope of being selected for a roster He decided immediately to make a career of professional basketball. Between 1994-95 and 2006-07 , he was a player for teams from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
In Lightfoot’s final season, the Vandals finished with an 18–10 (9–5 conference) record. For the third consecutive season he led the team in scoring, this time with a 25.4 points per game average. On December 21, he scored a still-standing school record 50 points against Gonzaga, including a career-high 8-for-11 shooting performance on three-point field goals. He had been in foul trouble early in the game and was forced to sit out for 10 minutes in the first half, so his 50 points came in only 30 minutes of playing time. In addition, his teammates only scored a combined 19 points, and the Vandals lost the game 76 to 69. Lightfoot then repeated as the conference player of the year, joining Montana’s Larry Krystkowiak at the only two players to achieve the feat at least twice up until that point. Although the team achieved moderate success that season, they were not good enough to play in any postseason tournaments. Lightfoot’s individual success during the year, and over the course of his career at the school, saw him graduate in 1994 as the most decorated player in the university’s history and one of the Big Sky Conference’s greatest players of all time.

In 1992-93, a junior, he again was the top scorer for his fellow Vandals in scoring, averaging 22.3 scores per game. He set the single season record for the school with 715 points in way to the team’s success in leading Idaho to a regular-season conference championship. They ended up with an overall 24-8 (11-3 conference) record however, they did not get an entry into the NCAA Tournament nor the National Invitation Tournament. On February 15th 1993 Sports Illustrated named him their player of the nation of the week for the second time, which was almost one year following his first honor in the national spotlight. He scored an average of 32.5 points and had 16 rebound during wins against Idaho State and Boise State. In the game against Boise State, Lightfoot scored 44 points, which was a school record at the time. The media was impressed by Lightfoot’s stellar season and named him the conference’s athlete of the season.

The birthplace of Lightfoot was Chattanooga, Lightfoot played basketball at Chattanooga High School. He was recognized as an Parade magazine All-American, was the 1989 Class AA Tennessee Mr. Basketball recipient and signed an National Letter of Intent to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. Lightfoot’s academics were so bad that NCAA’s Proposition 48 did not allow him to attend the school. To enhance his academic performance and be able to play in the four-year Division I institution, he was enrolled at Hiwassee College, a junior college located in Madisonville, Tennessee.
Lightfoot was a player as a player for The Vandals throughout three consecutive seasons, 1991-92 to 1993-94. In his first season with his team Idaho ended up with an of 18-14 (10-6 conference) record. He led the team’s scoring by scoring 21.8 scores per contest in addition, Sports Illustrated named him their National Player of the Week on February 17th 1992.
