Or “Ori” Sasson (Hebrew: Avr “Avry” SHSHvn born 18 August, 1990) is an Israeli Olympic judoka. He took home bronze in the +100kg (+220 pounds) category at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

On June 26, 2015, he represented Israel in the 2015 European Games in judo in the category of +100 kg (while being 120 kilograms (265 lbs)) at Baku, Azerbaijan, Sasson was awarded a silver medal by Israel at the first European Games, and in winning the silver medal at the 2015 European Judo Championship. He was defeated by 159 kg (351 pounds) Adam Okruashvili of Georgia in the final.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Sasson defeated Egyptian judoka Islam El Shahaby in the first round. When the match ended, Sasson tried to shake his opponent’s hand, but El Shahaby refused—to loud boos and jeers from the near-capacity crowd for the Egyptian’s behavior. El Shahaby later announced that he was retiring from judo.

He won the silver medal at the 2016 European Judo Championships.

On February 12, he took home an gold medal at the World Cup Prague in judo at 100 kg. in February 2013, and later in the months, Sasson took home gold awards at the European Open Tbilisi in Georgia as well as in the European Open Warsaw at -100 kg. He also was awarded an award of gold during the European Open Tallinn in Estonia with a weight of +100kg, which is a feat considering that the weight was 115 kilograms and was able to return from surgery on his injured thumb.

Sasson began his judo lessons at the age of eight years old. His instructors include Gill Offer and Oren Smadja His group is Meitav Jerusalem, and he began to compete in 2005. Sasson has been working alongside Noam Eyal. He is a professional sports psychologist on behalf of the Olympic Committee of Israel.
