Omar Alghabra is one of the most popular and richest Engineer who was born on October 24, 1969 in Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia. Alghabra was born in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia to the family of a Syrian family. His father, who was an architect, relocated the family members to Saudi Arabia in 1968. Alghabra has said that he recalls living in a safe environment as a student at a private school, and traveling to Syria during the summer. Alghabra finished his high school studies in Alkhobar’s Dhahran Ahliyya School in Alkhobar. He later relocated into Damascus, Syria where he began his engineering education from Damascus University. He decided to finish his studies in Canada.
The Alghabra government in 2007 accused the Harper government for making use of security language to use controversy over the Anti-Terrorism Act that allowed for pre-arrest and hearings for investigation. Alghabra claimed it was “good police work using ordinary legal measures” has been utilized to capture suspected terrorists previously. He continued to argue that these measures require evidence of threat before they are worthy of their application. This is “parliament’s priority to protect all Canadians and not to allow ideology to trump rational and evidence-based debate”. Alghabra also suggested that suspects of terror should be investigated in a third way rather than being having them released or deported. He said that because Canada should have an impartial justice system, the system must be utilized as a last resort, since many suspects are susceptible to the presumption of guiltas well as racial profiling and public anxiety. He mentioned instances like Maher Arar, as an instance.
Alghabra was defeated in General Election 2008 and General Election 2011 for Mississauga-Erindale. He was next re-elected to the 42 Parliament of Canada in 2015 as Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre. Alghabra’s campaign efforts garnered media attention for parodying the opening sequence of Game of Thrones.
After his political defeat in the 2008 general election, Alghabra joined ENBALA Power Networks as their Vice President for Corporate Development. Later, he worked as an advisor to the COO of the Ontario Energy Board on innovation in the utility sector. Alghabra returned to the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science after being appointed a Distinguished Visiting Professor. In this role, he also joined Ryerson’s start-up incubator DMZ as their Executive-in-residence.
Alghabra declared that his involvement in politics began as a volunteer for a campaign and he also had the opportunity to speak out on issues such as equality as well as national security issues and the issue of racial profiling. When a Member of Parliament retired, Alghabra left General Electric to run as a Liberal candidate for Member of Parliament in the 2006 federal election in the riding of Mississauga–Erindale. He beat Conservative incumbent Bob Dechert by 3,328 votes. He was elected into the Conservative Party minority government, headed by Stephen Harper. Alghabra said that his engineering education has helped to broaden his political outlook.

Omar Alghabra PC MP (Arabic: mr Gbr) (born on October 24 1969) is a Canadian politician, who is the Liberal Member of the Parliament in the city of Mississauga Centre. The first time he got elected was in the year 2006 for the 39th Parliament of Canada and then when he was elected in the year 2015 42nd the Parliament of Canada. He was Parlament Secretary of the Minister for Foreign Affairs (Consular Affairs) from 2015 to 2018 , and also as the Parlament Secretary of the Minister for International Trade Diversification from 2018 until 2019. Alghabra was elected again in the federal election of 2019. He was appointed Parliament Secretary of the Premier (Public Service Renewal) and Parliament Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs. He was also officially sworn in as a Member of the Privy Council in February 2020.
