In the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, 2015 World Champion, Danielle Williams appeared to be the most likely to win this title after the departure of Sally Pearson. However, in the final Amusan was able to leapfrog her rivals and was able to win the race by a mere meter ahead of WIlliams. She also took home the bronze award in the 4- 100-metre relay along together with her teammates Joy Udo Gabriel, Blessing Okagbare, and Rosemary Chukwuma. In the following year, she took home her very first African Championships title in her specialty race during the Asaba African Championships. This was in line with an Nigerian tradition, as Judy Bell-Gam won the competition to represent Nigeria at the inaugural African Championships. She also won an award of gold in the 4 100 m relay at the championships.
On October 5, 2019, at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, she ran a personal best of 12.48 s during the 100 metres hurdles qualifying rounds. In the semi-finals the following day, she equaled this personal best before placing 4th a few hours later in the final with 12.49 s.
In her first outdoor event of 2017, she set her personal best of a lifetime as well as a UTEP record 12.63 in the 100m hurdles. She was the champion of C-USA in her event of choice as well as the runner-up in the 200m. In the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, there was a change in the order of finish in the 100m hurdles. In a thrilling race, Amusan won the title ahead of Camacho Quinn who was the champion earlier in the year. The race was completed in an unbeatable personal record that was 12.57 s. Amusan demonstrated the potential of her athletic abilities at an early age. She won a silver medal during the 2013 African Youth Championships in Warri. She also won gold in the 100m hurdles in the African Junior Athletics Championships in Addis Ababa. In 2015, as she made her All-Africa Games debut as an 18-year-old, she took home her first gold medal at the 100-meter hurdles.
In 2016, she was an undergraduate at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Amusan was the second athlete at the school to be awarded the title of C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Year , since UTEP became a member of C-USA. Amusan was the gold medalist in the 100 mH hurdles and the 200 meters. Amusan also won an honorable mention on the long leap in the C-USA Championships. Amusan was the first to break through the 13-second barrier in the hurdles in an average of 12.83 s during the El Paso UTEP Invitational. The time was faster than Kim Turner’s 100-mH UTEP record that been held for over 33 years. She finished second in the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100 meters. She ran a cold 12.79 second in front of Kentucky’s Jasmine Camacho Quinn. Amusan also participated in the 2016 World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz. Although she ran her second fastest time in history she was sixth in the competition. She then went on to compete for Nigeria during the Rio Olympic Games, reaching the semifinals for the 100mH.
She ran a personal best of 7.89 s in the 60 metres hurdles at the start of her 2018 season. She went on to represent her country at the Birmingham World Indoor Championships reaching the final of the 60 metres hurdles.
