Olena Golub was born on the 25th of December 1951 in Kyiv located in Soviet Ukraine, to an intellectual family. Her parents appeared on stage as singers prior to their father Yevgen Golub became journalist, and the mother of her, Zinaida Morozova, became an official. She completed her studies at Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv in the year 1974. the department for biophysics. She spent a few years working as an engineer but always dreamed of becoming an artist professionally. In the 1970s, she resisted to be admitted into the Academy of Arts, against the creation of compositions inspired by Soviet ideology.
