In the Interpol group show at Stockholm In 1996, the artist was in the gallery, chained to a sign which read “dangerous”. An international scandal took place in the event that he not only slapped those in the crowd who opted to ignore the warning in one instance, even in which he bit a man as well as attacking other artworks in the exhibit and even destroyed some works that were created from other artist.
The incident inspired a scene in the 2017 film The Square directed by Ruben Östlund, where animal actor Terry Notary plays a performance artist who imitates an ape.
Kulik believes his most successful curatorial work as “Leopards Bursting into a Temple” by Anatoly Osmolovsky in the year 1992. In this exhibition two naked persons were confined to an enclosure with live leopards circling the room. He claimed that the exhibit was an “metaphor for everything new and lively that appears in our life”.
