Oksen Mirzoyan is one of the most popular and richest Weightlifter who was born on June 11, 1961 in Angeghakot, Armenia. Oksen Mirzoyan (Armenian: Ogsen Mirzoyan , born on 11 June of 1961) is an ex- Soviet Armenian weightlifter and European, World and Olympic Champion. Mirzoyan was given his Honoured master of Sports of the USSR title in 1984 as well as in 1998, the Honored Coaching of Armenia title in 1998.

Mirzoyan mentors their son European Champion and Vice-World Champion Arakel Mirzoyan, who followed his father’s footsteps and started weightlifting. Arakel was a competitor at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London for Armenia. Oksen has also worked with his nephew Arayik Mirzoyan. Mirzoyan is also an athlete in the weightlifting sport.

In the early part of 1988, Mirzoyan’s competitor Neno Terziyski failed a drug test, which resulted in an exclusion from lifting weights. In 1988, at the Summer Olympics at Seoul, Mirzoyan came in second place, only behind original winner of the first place Mitko Grablev. But, Grablev also tested positive for doping and was later disqualified. The name as Olympic Champion and the Olympic gold medal was awarded to Oksen Mirzoyan.

The village he was raised in is Angeghakot, Sisian Oblast, Armenian SSR. In 1965, the family relocated to the village of Baghramyan, Echmiadzin region. He moved to the region in 1977. started exercising weights under direction from Ashot Vilasyana. In the next year, he had the opportunity to compete against the standard athletes of the USSR.

The year was 1981 when Mirzoyan joined the USSR weightlifting team of the national level. Mirzoyan was an European as well as a World Champion in 1983 by winning gold medals at the 1983 World Weightlifting Championships and 1983 European Weightlifting Championships Both of which were held in Moscow. At both events, Mirzoyan set new world records in the clean, snatch and jerk, as well as the complete exercise which were all performed within the weight class known as bantamweight (56 kilograms) division. Because of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, Mirzoyan was unable to compete that year. As the current World Champion, he would be the most likely to take home his Olympic Gold medal.

Oksen Mirzoyan completed his weightlifting career in 1991 and later took up coaching and sports officiating. He became the head coach of the Armenian national weightlifting team. Mirzoyan was also the Chairman of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation from 1998–2004. As of 2004, Mirzoyan is the Vice- President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia and the director of the Yerevan School Sports in weightlifting. Mirzoyan was reelected one of the Vice-Presidents of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia on 9 March 2013.
