Nouriel Roubini is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on March 29, 1958 in Istanbul, Turkey. Roubini as well as political researcher Ian Bremmer have described the 21st century’s world as becoming more fragmented in both political and economic terms, and in which “old models of understanding global dynamics are struggling” to adapt to the rapid change. In an article published in Foreign Affairs magazine, they refer to an “G-Zero world,” where the United States no longer has the resources needed to be the main provider of global public goods. In the end, there will likely be more conflicts than cooperation between nations which could result in the possibility of a “zero-sum game,” a “game in which my win is your loss.” The reason for this is:

The 1990s were the time when Roubini was studying the decline of developing economies in the 1990s. He employed an intuitive, historical perspective, backed by a thorough understanding the theoretical frameworks used to analyse the economies of these countries. He came at the observation that the common factor was the huge current account deficits that were financed with loans from outside. Roubini believed it was possible that his country United States might be the next to be affected and as early as began writing about a potential future economic collapse. Business Week magazine writer Michael Mandel However, he noted during 2006 Roubini and other economists typically offer generalized predictions that could be realized over long periods of time.

By 1998, he joined the Clinton administration first as a senior economist in the White House Council of Economic Advisers and then moved to the Treasury department as a senior adviser to Timothy Geithner, then the undersecretary for international affairs, who in 2009 became Treasury secretary in the Obama administration.

Roubini returned to the IMF in 2001 as a visiting scholar while it battled a financial meltdown in Argentina. He cowrote a book on saving bankrupt economies entitled, Bailouts or Bail-ins? and launched his own consulting firm. He is also a regular contributor to Project Syndicate since 2007.

Nouriel Roubini was born Istanbul, Turkey, to Iranian Jewish parents. When he was a baby his family spent a brief time in Iran as well as Israel. From 1962 until 1983, he lived in Italy and, in particular, Milan in which he was a student at his local Jewish school, and later the Bocconi University. He graduated with an B.A., summa cum laude in economics. He earned the Ph.D. on international economics at Harvard University in 1988, with the help of Jeffrey Sachs. He is an U.S. citizen and speaks English, Persian, Italian, Hebrew, and conversational French. He is the cousin of the top tech experts and the former PC Magazine lead technology analyst Jonathan Roubini.
