Nochi Dankner (Hebrew name: nvHy dnknr ; born on 13th November, 1954) is an Israeli businessman. He was the sole shareholders of IDB Group. Dankner is the co-founder and chairperson of Ganden Group – which led him to personal bankruptcy worth 400 million NIS and also being a member of the board of directors for the Jewish Agency for Israel. In 2017, he was found guilty of Securities Fraud for a scheme to increase his company’s share price to raise money while the company was facing financial difficulties.

Dankner appealed his conviction before his Israeli Supreme Court. On the 29th of August the Supreme Court rejected his appeal and the sentence was increased to three years of prison. It also increased Itay’s sentence , which was reduced to two years of prison. Itay Strum was sentenced to two years in prison. Supreme Court ruled that he was to start serving his sentence from 2 October, 2018. On the 2nd of October, the inmate was admitted to Maasiyahu Prison to begin serving his sentence. He was released early in February 2020.

Dankner was found guilty in July of 2016. In December 6, 2016 the judge sentenced him to two years of prison and a 800000 NIS in fine. Additionally, Dankner received a suspended sentence for an additional year. Prosecutors wanted an indefinite three to five-year sentence in prison. Judge Khabub’s formula for sentence wasthat he “deemed it appropriate to punish the accused within the lower levels of the appropriate punishment due to the personalities of the accused, their extraordinary philanthropic work and the damages and losses they inflicted on themselves by getting embroiled in this scheme.”

After a number of poor business deals executed by Dankner such as investment in a failing Las Vegas hotel and residential project, which later collapsed Maariv newspaper deal IDB was a public corporation in the moment, suffered million of dollars of losses. Dankner attempted to preserve the company’s control and employed Itay Strum and broker Adi Sheleg, and others to purchase and sell IDB stock, which led to an increase of prices in an open offering on February 12, 2012. The goal was to raise funds in order to help the firm. Itay Sturm was given eight million shekels of money from Nochi Dankner to purchase and sell. Strum and his co-workers bought shares at higher price even though they knew that it was worth less to persuade traders into buying IDB stock at prices that were inflated. This puts the price of the stock over its true value which is considered to be illegal manipulating stocks in accordance with the law. (citation to the law required)
