Niroshan Wijekoon is one of the most popular and richest Badminton Player who was born on February 10, 1964 in Sri Lanka. P. Niroshan Wijekoon (born on February 10, 1964) is a Sri Lankan Olympian and the first player of badminton to represent Sri Lanka. Wijekoon was the winner of the Sri Lankan National Badminton Championships singles title for nine years (1983-1987 and 1989-1992).
Wijekoon has been a part of Sri Lanka at three Asian Games and two Commonwealth Games with his greatest accomplishment being the one he represented Sri Lanka at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Although the grace of the younger days are fading Wijekoon has no thoughts of hanging the boots. Even now, as Director of the stock brokering firm Asia Securities he still plays in Sri Lankan National Badminton Championships, making his 32nd appearance in 2007.
Wijekoon played in during the 1994 Summer Olympics as a singles for men. He fell in the opening match to Hannes Fuchs from Austria 15-9 and 15-11. In his country of birth, He won numerous national championships. He also took part in at the World Badminton Championships in 1989 as a singles player for the men. He lost to Kim Hak-kyun from South Korea 7:15 and 7:15. In his country of birth He won Nine titles during the singles for men during the Sri Lankan National Badminton Championships between 1983 and 1992.

Wijekoon began his career at Sri Lankan National Badminton Championships in the year 1975 when he was just 11 years old and then went on to win 28 titles including 9 singles, 12 doubles , and seven mixed doubles. Wijekoon won the first title for singles in 1983 when he was an 18-year old from Royal College, Colombo
1984, he defeated Singaporean No 1 in The Thomas Cup and was the first Sri Lankan to win a singles match in the Thomas Cup game. 1992 Wijekoon defeated Indias No 1 in the Portugal Open.
At the age of 38, unseeded Wijekoon beat the bottom seeded Udaya Wanigasinghe to make a long due singles quarter finals berth. In 2007, at the age of 43, he stretched as far as the semi finals in doubles, beating the second seed on the way.
