Nilo Divina is one of the most popular and richest Lawyer who was born on February 20, 1965 in Roxas, Philippines. Nilo Divina (born on 20th February 1965) is a Filipino lawyer and professor. He is also an author as well as an author and administrator of education. He is the founder as managing partner at Divina Law, a law firm located in the Philippines with its headquarters in Makati. He is President of the Philippine Association of Law Schools.

He was the author of his law book “Handbook on Philippine Commercial Law” and is on directorship of the United Coconut Planters Bank. He was named as dean at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law in 2009 and succeeded Roberto A. Abad who was appointed by the then president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo into the Supreme Court of the Philippines as Associate Justice.

In 2018, Horacio Castillo, III, a law student of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law was killed due to hazing. The fraternity Castillo was applying for is the same fraternity that Divina was a member of. He was summoned into a senate inquiry, wherein the line of questioning pertains to his seeming tolerance of hazing in the university, and for supposedly failing to stop the fraternity, Aegis Juris, from performing the illegal act.

UST Hospital was audited and it was found that they had failed to report the more than P700 million in income in the year 2006. Divina was the attorney for UST Hospital during the time that she represented the hospital when the Court of Tax Appeals of the Philippines has ruled against Bureau of Internal Revenue (Philippines) on a matter involving P171.5 million in tax on income and the compromise penalty of $ 56,000. The decision for the UST hospital was because of a technicality in area where tax assessment was invalid due to the fact that there was no “letter of authority” issued by the tax bureau to allow the hospital to open its books in 2007 was issued by BIR Manila Region 6, however the hospital was already under the control by the tax agency’s “Large Taxpayers Services” based in Quezon City.

Divina is a graduate from his time at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Arts and Letters, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science, with an honors grade in 1985. He studied law through the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law and was awarded the Magna Cum Laude as valedictorian of the class in 1989. He scored fourth on the 90 Philippine Bar Examination.

In 2017, Philippine polls officer Andres Bautista’s estranged wife pointed that Bautista is involved in corrupt practices as chairperson of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, claiming that Bautista received commissions from Divina for helping the latter’s clients with the Commission on Elections (Philippines). Patricia Bautista called for Divina’s debarment.
