The parents of her mother, Yugoslavian folk singer Vesna Zmijanac, and economist Vlada Jovanovic, who served as the marketing director of the PGP RTS separated shortly after her birth. Nikolija discovered her love for music during her middle school years when she was crowned the winner of the town’s singing competition by singing”Aladdin’s “A Whole New World”. Jovanovic emigrated into Athens, Greece for her senior year in high school, where she later went to at the School of Business at the American Deree College.
Following her graduation, Nikolija returned in Serbia with the intent to release a single. She began collaborating with songwriters and producers who hail from Atelje Trag, Marko Perunicic and Nebojsa Arezina, on her house single “Cao zdravo” (Bye, Bye), which was released on April 9, 2013. The pop artist Ana Nikolic then offered her to do guest verses for the song’s lead track “Milion dolara” (Million Dollars) for her fourth album with the same name , after having heard Nikolija’s rapping samples from Atelje Trag, which she was willing to accept. The collaboration was a huge success and gave Nikolija greater exposure. In the same year, she released a self-titled hip hop song in November. The song is regarded as an early mainstream rap tracks by female artists in Serbia.
In June 2015, she released “Opasna igra” (Dangerous Game) and its accompanying music video, which was declared the most viewed one by a Serbian artist that year. Later, Nikolija also announced her debut album and released her first ballad “Ljubavni maneken” (Love Mannequin) in October.
She has been in a relationship with Serbian musician and actor Relja Popović, former member of Elitni Odredi duo, since they collaborated on “Alkohola litar” in 2014. The couple has a daughter named Rea, born on 26 September 2016, and are not planning to get married. Jovanović currently resides in Vračar, downtown Belgrade with her family.
Jovanovic had a relationship with Greek NBA player Thanasis Antetokounmpo between 2013 and 2014.
