Pradhan was born in Hesal village, in the heart of tribal Khunti approximately 60 kilometers far from Ranchi, Jharkhand, on 8 December 1993 to Soma Pradhan who was a Bihar police constable and his wife Jitan Devi who was who was a homemaker. Pradhan was the 3rd child from Soma Pradhan along with Jitan Devi. Pradhan’s family were unaware of her accomplishments until they were informed in the news media.

Pradhan was later chosen to be a part of the team of the Indian women’s hockey team that was a representative of India at the Rio Olympics which took place in Brazil in the year 2016. The selection of her to team Indian Women’s Hockey team that represented India in the Rio Olympics made history because it was her first female Hockey athlete from Jharkhand to ever participate in Olympics. The team of 16 players was led by the defender Sushila Chanu. Pradhan was a player in the midfield position along with Renuka Yadav Llima Minz, Monika and Navjot Kaur. Other team members included Deep Grace Ekka, Anuradha Devi Thokchom Savita, Poonam Rani, Vandana Katariya Deepika, Namita Toppo, Sunita Lakra, and Preeti Dubey. The team was eliminated during the group stage, where they placed sixth.

Pradhan participated for the first time for India in the U-17 Asia Cup in Bangkok in the year 2011. But, Pradhan wasn’t able to be picked for Indian Junior National Hockey Camp in 2011 and 2012. Pradhan was also part of the Women’s U-21 Hockey Team which took home the silver medal at the Asia Cup, however, was unable to play in competition because of an injury that lasted until the beginning of the year. Pradhan began her career with on the Senior Indian Team and was invited into the senior team in August of 2015. Pradhan was also a part of 2012’s 2012 Asia Cup in the under-21 category.

Nikki Pradhan (born 8 December 1993) is an Indian professional field hockey player who is part of the Indian national team. Pradhan is the very first woman Hockey athlete from Jharkhand who was a part of India during the Olympics. Pradhan was part of the 16-man squad for the Rio Olympics that was also the first time that Indian Women Hockey in Olympics after 36 years following an outstanding performance in the Hockey World League Semifinals in 2015. Pradhan is the midfielder for the Indian Women’s Hockey team. The team selection was sixth Hockey player from Jharkhand to compete in the Olympics in the Olympics, putting her alongside Jaipal Singh Munda (1928), Michael Kido (1972), Sylvanus Dungdung (1980), Ajeet Lakra (1992) and Manohar Topno (1984).

Pradhan began playing hockey as a child under the tutelage of her childhood coach , Dasrath Mahto. She joined the Bariatu Girls’ Hockey Centre and has produced the former Indian Captain Asunta Lakra. She was born in Ranchi in 2005.
