Kelly completed the three-year acting program (Diploma of Speech and Drama) at the Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama between September 1971 to July 1974. She had her first experience in theatre by working with a variety of repertory companies throughout England. She made her first television performance as Dixon of Dock Green in 1975. She also appeared in the sex- themed film”You’re driving me crazy” from 1978. But she is most well recognized for her appearance in all nine seasons of Hi-de-Hi! on the show as Yellowcoat Sylvia.
