Garg was whistle-blower in a shocking incident that occurred in January 2015, in which there was a scandal when the Badminton Association of India sent the senior superintendent of police, 46 years old, Manmohan Sharma and referee Apinder Sabharwal for an international event in Iceland.
Garg participated in three international tournaments in the 2017-18 season: 2017 Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold, 2017 Scottish Open Grand Prix and the Yonex Welsh International 2017.
The year 2014 was the first time Garg was back to playing for India. He took part in his first super series tournament in June of 2016. In the 2015 Australian Super Series, he along with their doubles partners M. Anilkumar Raju lost to the world’s No. 2 ranking Malaysian team comprising Goh V Shem as well as Tan Wee Kiong in the round of 32.

Garg first saw success on the international stage in the month of December 2013, when he made it to the semi-finals in the Men’s Doubles tournament during 2013. Bahrain Junior International Series.
Garg made his debut international in Bahrain during September of 2013 during the Sushant Chipalkatti Memorial India Junior International Badminton Championships that took place in Pune, Maharashtra but failed to meet the expectations. He was unable to win those qualifying stages of singles tournament. Garg’s slow start continued into the subsequent Tata Open India International Challenge 2013 event, where he once was a loss in the opening rounds.
In May 2017, Garg, along with Indian icon player P. V. Sindhu, contested the elections for a slot in the Athletes’ Commission of the Badminton World Federation. He is a staunch supporter of Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP politician and president of the Badminton Association of India. Through his social media account, Garg recently expressed his intention of joining politics prior to the 2019 Indian General Election.
