Nicola Margaret Padfield (nee Helme born the 16th of May in 1955) is a British barrister and academic. She was the Director of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, since her appointment in October of 2013 and was succeeded in October of 2019 by Sally Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Huyton. She is Professor of Criminal and Penal Justice in the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge. Alongside her academic activities she was an official at the Crown Court between 2002 and 2014, and is a Bencher in the Middle Temple.

Padfield was admitted by the Bar on the 27th of July 1978. Then, she practiced as barrister in criminal law. On the 31st October 2002, she was appointed as a Recorder (a part-time judge) She was a part-time judge on the South Eastern Circuit and the Crown Court until 2014. She was appointed a Bencher of Middle Temple on 3 February 2009.

In March 2013, Padfield was announced as the next Master of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, in succession to Robert Lethbridge. She took up the appointment in October 2013, becoming the 8th Master of Fitzwilliam College, the first woman ever to hold the post. In February 2019, it was announced that she would be succeeded as Master of Fitzwilliam College by Sally Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Huyton: Padfield stood down in September 2019, and was succeeded by Morgan in October 2019.
