Fabian Cancellara was one of the favourites after the Muur van Geraardsbergen. Nuyens was one of the chasers who bridged to the leader group in the last kilometers. A trio of riders were left to fight it out for victory while another group was very close in the last meters. In the sprint, Nuyens beat Cancellara and Sylvain Chavanel of Quick-Step. Nuyens remarked on his greatest win in his career, “It wasn’t until the final 50m that I realized what was happening and that I was about win this beautiful race.”
