Langworthy, born February 27, 1981, is an American politician who serves as the chair of New York State Republican Committee. After having been the chairperson of the Erie County Republican Committee since 2010, Langworthy was elected the Committee’s chair in July 2019.

Donald Trump declared that Langworthy would be serving on his executive committee for the 2016 transition. Langworthy was a vocal supporter for Trump’s presidential campaign.

In 2018, Langworthy began campaigning for the chairmanship of the New York State Republican Committee against incumbent state chairman Ed Cox. On May 20, 2019, after Monroe County Republican Chair Bill Reilich announced his support for Langworthy, Cox announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy for a new term as chairman; the Democrat and Chronicle reported that Langworthy was “poised to become” the next chair of the Republican Committee. On July 1, 2019, Langworthy was formally named Chair of the New York State Republican Committee.

In September 2019, it was announced that Langworthy would be succeeded as Erie County chairman by Boston, New York Republican chairman Karl J. Simmeth Jr.

James P. Domagalski, the Chair of Erie County Republican Committee, resigned in 2010 to run as a New York State Senator. Langworthy was an early frontrunner for county chairship. He made himself as visible on the state and county Republican scenes as possible. Langworthy was elected unanimously to the position of chairman in a special election. He is now the youngest chairman of either party in the history Erie County. Langworthy was the Republican county chairman who endorsed Carl Paladino in the Republican governoral primary in 2010. He emerged as a political force when Paladino won. The Republican’s successful attempt to take control in Erie County Legislature led to Paladino’s upset and Bob McCarthy, chief political columnist at Buffalo News, calling Langworthy the “GOP’s Young Elder”.
