Nicholas Iain Forbes CBE, a British Labour politician, has been the leader of Newcastle City Council from 2011 to 2011. Since 2007, he has been the leader of the Labour section on the City Council.

Forbes was elected a councillor for the Westgate area of the city in May 2000. He went on to be the leader of the Labour party in May 2007. After the 2011 elections, which saw the Liberal Democrats lose large amounts in the city and nationally, he was elected leader of the council. He was a vocal critic of the government’s fiscal policies of cutting funding to local governments. In response, he defended a policy that specifically cut arts funding in the city. Universal Credit is criticized by Forbes.

In 2019 Forbes unsuccessfully sought selection to be Labour’s candidate in the 2019 North of Tyne mayoral election, losing to Jamie Driscoll.
