Nick Bostrom is one of the most popular and richest Philosopher who was born on March 10, 1973 in Helsingborg, Skåne, Sweden. Samuel Butler’s 1863 essay “Darwin among the Machines”, predicted the dominance of humankind by intelligent machines. But Bostrom’s prediction of the deliberate murder of all humanity is the most extreme. In a review, one journalist stated that Bostrom’s “nihilistic” speculations suggest that he has been “reading too much science fiction he doesn’t like”. According to his later book, From Bacteria to Bach and Back (published in 2012), philosopher Daniel Dennett still holds views that are in contradiction to those of Bostrom. After reading The Master Algorithm Dennett changed his mind and now admits it is possible in principle to create “strong AI” that can be human-like in comprehension and agency. However, he maintains that the challenges of such a project, as predicated on Bostrom’s “alarming”, work, would be orders of magnitude more than those raising concern and at least 50 years off. Dennett believes that AI systems are only dangerous if they fall into anthropomorphism rather than challenging or developing the comprehension abilities of human users. In 2014, he wrote a book in which he stated that artificial intelligence would not challenge human supremacy. Since then, James Lovelock, an environmentalist, has moved closer to Bostrom’s position. In 2018, Lovelock stated that he believes the overthrow or destruction of humanity will occur in the near future.
Bostrom, along with David Pearce, co-founded the World Transhumanist Association in 1998. It has since been renamed Humanity+. He co-founded the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies in 2004 with James Hughes. However, he is no more involved in these organizations. Foreign Policy’s 2009 Top Global Thinkers list included Bostrom “for accepting no limits to human potential.”
In 2005, Bostrom founded the Future of Humanity Institute, which researches the far future of human civilization. He is also an adviser to the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk.
Aspects of Bostrom’s research concern the future of humanity and long-term outcomes. He discusses existential risk, which he defines as one in which an “adverse outcome would either annihilate Earth-originating intelligent life or permanently and drastically curtail its potential.” In the 2008 volume Global Catastrophic Risks, editors Bostrom and Milan M. Ćirković characterize the relation between existential risk and the broader class of global catastrophic risks, and link existential risk to observer selection effects and the Fermi paradox.
He earned a B.A. He received degrees in philosophy, mathematics logic, logic, and artificial intelligence from University of Gothenburg in 1994. In addition, he also earned an M.A. Stockholm University offers a degree in philosophy and physical science and also an M.Sc. King’s College London 1996. He studied W. V. Quine, an analytical philosopher, while he was at Stockholm University. This allowed him to study the relationship between reality and language. He was awarded a Ph.D. in philosophy at the London School of Economics in 2000. He was a Yale University professor from 2000 to 2002, and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in Oxford University from 2002 to 2005.

Although he canvasses disruption of international economic, political and military stability including hacked nuclear missile launches, Bostrom thinks the most effective and likely means for the superintelligence to use, would be a coup de main with weapons several generations more advanced than current state-of-the-art. He suggests nanofactories covertly distributed at undetectable concentrations in every square metre of the globe to produce a worldwide flood of human-killing devices on command. Once a superintelligence has achieved world domination (a ‘singleton’), humankind would be relevant only as resources for the achievement of the AI’s objectives (“Human brains, if they contain information relevant to the AI’s goals, could be disassembled and scanned, and the extracted data transferred to some more efficient and secure storage format”).
