Nic Cha Kim is one of the most popular and richest Playwright who was born on September 19, 1974 in Lakewood, California, United States. Songs in the Key of Los Angeles: A multi-platform collaboration between KCET and the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Public Library, Josh Kun from USC, and the Los Angeles Public Library brings to life the Library’s Southern California Sheet music Collection. The Collection includes sheet music pieces from the 1840s to the 1950s. It offers a unique portrait of Los Angeles’ history and culture through music and visual art. Nic Cha Kim produced a five-part documentary series on KCET featuring the musicians Aloe Blacc and Petrojvic Blasting Co, Julia Holter and I See Hawks In L.A. that aired as a special on KCET’s transmedia arts series, Artbound.

Kim moved to Los Angeles in order to be a playwright. He then became a documentary filmmaker. From 2005 to 2010, he was Resident Producer at Lodestone Theatre Ensemble. He also participated in the David Henry Hwang Writers Institute. Kim joined Company of Angels when he took part in the 2012 L.A. Views series. His plays, Trapezoid and Like Yesterday, as well as RE:verse and Rise Up, have all been performed for the stage.

Once the City of L.A. approved the district, Kim started Gallery Row Organization with a mission to create a thriving, pedestrian-friendly, culturally abundant, urban neighborhood. Gallery Row spans north–south along Main Street and Spring Street from 2nd Street in the north to 9th Street in the south. There are now over 40 art galleries in Gallery Row and the monthly Downtown Art Walk attracts over 30,000 visitors. Gallery Row Organization brought new art galleries into Downtown Los Angeles through economic development programs, introduced new signage to promote the Gallery Row district, produced cultural events with local community leaders, and curated the first TAP Card design competition for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

Co-Directed and Co-Produced by Nic Cha Kim, Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteras follows deported and displaced Guatemalans as they reintegrate back into their home country. Day Labor Theater Without Borders is a program of Cornerstone Theater Company where they perform plays based on stories from day labor communities. Teatro Jornalero Sin Fronteras was nominated for the 67th Los Angeles area Local Emmy in 2015 in the Feature Segment category.

Nic Cha Kim and Kjell Hagen presented a proposal in 2003 to create Gallery Row, an arts and culture district through Downtown Los Angeles’ Civic Center, Historic Core and Fashion District. Jan Perry and Antonio Villaraigosa co- sponsored the Los Angeles City Council vote unanimously to name Gallery Row on July 23, 2003 (Councilfile Indes: 03-1571).
