Nayeem Ahmad Khan Biography

Nayeem Ahmad Khan is one of the most popular and richest Political Leader who was born on January 20, 2000 in Baramulla, India. He has been involved in organizing seminars, debates, discussions and peaceful rallies for students/youth who want to seize India and join Pakistan since 1980. He was a leader at many rallies and attracted many young people to his ranks. His selfless service to Kashmiri youth attracted him. Nayem was arrested in 1984 for leading a demonstration of Students. Kashmir was still simmering after the hanging of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat at Tihar Jail.

Nayem Khan and Shabir Ahmad Shah, a senior Hurriyat leader from Ramban, were again arrested on 17 October 1989. Police were on a massive hunt for the pair. In solidarity with the young leaders, the Kashmiri People protested massively and a 9-day strike was also held throughout the state. Many people were killed during this strike. Nayem was transferred to Harinawas Interrogation Centre, and then to Central Jail Srinagar. He was then transferred to Madhya Pradesh Jail India. He was finally released in 1991 after more than two years imprisonment. Nayem, upon his release from Madhya Pradesh Jail in Kashmir, witnessed a shift in the entire Kashmir Scenario. He was shocked to learn of the deaths of many of his associates and colleagues. Khan was detained under PSA after he was again arrested. After being interrogated at Papa 2, Khan was taken to Kotbalwal Jail. Later, he was transferred to Central Jail Jammu.

Movement started gearing up after Kashmiri Youth backed by Pakistan opted for terrorism for seeking secession from India. Thousand of youth were killed and subjected to enforced disappearances since the militancy started in Kashmir in

1989. However APHC continued its role of resolving Kashmir Dispute through dialogue. In 1998, after he formed JKNF (Jammu Kashmir National Front) he encouraged the youth for peaceful struggle. Nayeem was elected its first chairman. On 11 September 2003 National Front Convention was scheduled to be held at Party Headquarters at Jawahar Nagar, Nayeem was arrested a day before and booked again under PSA and was lodged in District Jail Kathua (Jammu). He was then released after 13 months in Oct.2004.

In 2008, he played a crucial role in the formation of coordination committee which spearheaded the mass uprising against the “Indian Occupation” in the back drop of Land Row. He also acted as its spokesperson. This enraged the authorities and was again detained under PSA in Kathua Jail. Arrests and detentions have remained part of Nayeem’s struggle for secession. In 2009, he was released for few days and rearrested on leading protests against gruesome rape and murder of two women, Asiya 14 Jan and Nelofar 25 of Shopian on 29 May

2009. Nayeem was booked under PSA and lodged at Kathua Jail.

1986 saw Nayem form Islamic Students League with Shaheed Sheikh Hamid and Mohammad Yasin Malik. Nayem Khan was elected as its Chairman and Yasin Malik, its General Secretary. ISL gained popularity quickly among students and youth under the leadership of Nayem Khan. Because of its socio-political agenda which sought justice for Kashmiri’s who were being suppressed, ISL members were included in every pro-secessionist decision.

Under the leadership of Mohammad Nayem, Jammu Kashmir National Front pursues the mission to seize Kashmir. Nayem began his struggle in the 1980s as a student after joining the people’s league in 1980. He was arrested in 1982 while leading a Magam Tangmarg student procession. Right from his childhood, Nayem impressed people with both his selfless leadership qualities, and his organisational skills, which are still widely recognized today.

1986 saw Nayem, Shabir Ahmad Shah, and 30 other youths from Islamabad in South Kashmir being arrested. In 1987, the Muslim United Front (MUF) was established. It was an amalgamation of pro-secessionist organisations. ISL was a member of it. ISL played a key role in the formation MUF. MUF participated in 1987 election which was massively rigged. Many prominent leaders and activists were detained, including Nayem Khan and his group under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA). After being interrogated in Red 16 Sonwar Srinagar during 1988, Nayem and his associates were taken into custody. He was then booked under PSA, and moved to central Jail Srinagar before being transferred to Sub-Jail Reasi Udhampur.

After his release in 1993, Nayeem played a pivotal role in the formation of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC). He had taken the pledge to strengthen the residence movement under a univocal agenda, which he still believes is the only effective way to achieve Kashmiri secession and join Pakistan. During this process of formation of APHC, the resistance movement reached to every corner of the state with huge involvement of people from all the regions of state.
