Natania, an Indian of Sindhi descent, was born in Mumbai and raised there. She attended John Connon and Cathedral schools. Jai Hind College in Mumbai was where she completed her education. She was part The Stop Gaps Choral Ensemble, which is one of India’s most prestigious choruses. She attended The Berklee School of Music’s summer program in Boston in 2010. After moving to Los Angeles, she attended Musician’s Institute of Hollywood.

While she was still in College, Natania started recording her debut EP Hope and Heartbreak. All songs were written and performed by Lalwani. Max Mitchell, a LA-based producer and keyboardist, co-produced the album. Cherry Love was inspired from a T-shirt Lalwani spotted at H&M in New York City. A video with animated lyrics was created for the single and received more than 30,000 views on YouTube within a matter of days. The video was then broadcast on VH1 India, along with major artists such as Taylor Swift and One Direction. This created a buzz around Lalwani. Her EP resulted in her signing with Urband & Lazaar (a Los Angeles music licensing company that secured her songs spots for American Television). The prestigious “HOT 100 unsigned artists” list was created by Music Connection. In the past, it has included artists such as Sara Bareilles and Steel Panther. Hope and Heartbreak were included in the Top 25 Music Critiques 2013. Cherry Love was also awarded “Honorable Mention”, at the Unsigned Only International Songwriting Competition. Lalwani was one of the top finalists from more than 8,000 entries. The commercials featuring songs from the EP were made by PS I Made This. Her single, “The Letter”, was released after her EP. Natania was nominated for her first GIMA award.
