Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 16, 1960 in Daudawa, Katsina State, Nigeria. Nasir Ahmad El Rufai was born February 16, 1960, to a Fulani family from Daudawa. When he was eight years old, his father died. He was then sponsored by an uncle in Kaduna to continue his schooling. El-Rufai attended Barewa College. As a junior at the college President Umaru Yar’Adua served as the house captain for his dormitory. He graduated in 1976 at the top, and won the “Barewa Old Boy’s Association Academic Achievement Trophy”.

El-Rufai was appointed economic advisor by Abdulsalami Abubakar in 1998 after the death of Sani Abacha, a military dictator. El-Rufai worked in this capacity with the World Bank as well as the International Monetary Fund. The Fourth Nigerian Republic was born after President Olusegun Obasanjo was elected president in 1999.

In July 2003, he was appointed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. During his tenure, he presided over a radical transformation of the federal capital earlier riddled with corruption and vast deviation from the original masterplan. With the establishment of the Abuja Geographic Information System, the capital became the first municipality in Nigeria with a computerised land register and information system.

In 2008, following Umaru Yar’Adua rise to power, El-Rufai went into self- imposed exile and became a vocal critic of the administration. In exile, he received a law degree from the University of London in August 2008, and a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University in June 2009. He also received the Kennedy School Certificate in Public Policy and Management having spent 11 months as an Edward A. Mason Fellow in Public Policy and Management from July 2008 to June 2009.

Then he went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a bachelor’s in quantity surveying. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School in 1984. El Rufai attended many professional and post-graduate programs including Georgetown School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
