Naoto Kataoka was conceived in Tokorozawa (Saitama Prefecture), Japan on 30th August 1983. After graduating from Saitama Prefectural Tokorozawa Secondary School, he stopped playing baseball. He once considered becoming a comedian in his youth and started a comedy group called “Jinsei Honojigumi” with a friend.

Naoto was invited by Hiro to perform in the revival of J Soul Brothers’ Nidaime J Soul Brothers(The Second Generation) of J Soul Brothers. Naoto began using NAOTO for his stage name, and performed the first time as a member Nidaime J Soul Brothers at COLOR TOUR 2007 BLUE 10/11/2007.

On 1 March 2009, as Nidaime J Soul Brothers announced their indefinite hiatus and all members migrated to Exile, Naoto joined Exile. From 1 November, co- starring with Exile’s group-mate Kenchi Tachibana, his first TV drama Genryō Boxer started to be released on mobile streaming website BeeTV. Naoto played Susumu Kitaooji , a young boxer who appreciated and looked for delicious food. At the end of the year, he appeared on the stage of NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen for the first time as a member of Exile.

On 25 February 2009, Nidaime J Soul Brothers released their first album, J Soul Brothers, debuting at No.1 on the Oricon Albums Chart on the first day of its release. At the same time, Naoto made his major debut in the music industry.

He is a Japanese actor, dancer, rapper, and creative director. He is a performer and singer of J-Pop dance, vocal group Exile, as well as a leader and performer of J-Pop dancing and vocal group Sandaime J Soul Brothers. He was also a member Nidaime J Soul Brothers, until their exile in 2009. He formed Hip Hop unit HONESTBOYZ(r), with Nigo and other members, in 2016. He was a member Sandaime J Soul Brothers and won the Japan Record Awards twice. The third time he received the award as Exile’s member, he received the same award. Naoto has appeared in several TV dramas and films. He has been a frequent guest on TBS’s Variety show Ningen Kansatsu Variety monitoring since April 2016. In 2015, he founded his own fashion brand STUDIO SEVEN and has been the creative director of the brand ever since. He was named director of LDH Apparel in 2017, a subsidiary company under his management company LDH.

Naoto began dancing at the age of 17 when he joined his school’s Dance Club. He became the leader and founder of his high school dance club his third year. This was when he decided to pursue a career in dance. After Naoto graduated from high school, he continued to improve his dancing skills and formed JAZZ DRUG, which was comprised of Naoto and Nabe, and Maiko, and began participating in a variety of events. Naoto traveled to Los Angeles and New York in 2004 to learn from Andre Fuentes (a choreographer who has choreographed for Britney Spears). Naoto performed at The Carnival in Los Angeles, which is the longest-running Southern California dance show. It also features a monthly showcase of top/elite choreographers from around the globe.

On 7 May 2008, Nidaime J Soul Brothers released their first single “WE!”, which was sold exclusively on Exile’s mobile website. Meanwhile, Naoto made his actor debut in Gekidan Exile’s 2nd show CROWN ~Nemuranai, Yoru no Hate ni…~ in May. Afterwards, the group went on a nation-wide small-scale tour, the so-called Musha Shugyo (“Samurai training”) from October to November, during which the members traveled on a bus and put on 48 shows in 2 months around the country. From November 29 to December, the group also took part in Exile Live Tour Exile Perfect Live 2008.
