In 2013 Stohlman, with the help of Busheff, adapted The Monster Opera for the stage with a full score.
Stohlman invented the term “flash book” in 2008 and judged the first Flash Forward Press flash novel contest in 2010. She founded the Flashbomb Flash Fiction Reading Series, Denver in 2013, which she still curates.

Stohlman was born in Washington D.C., but she grew up in Virginia, Kansas and Arizona. She also lived in Spain as a child. She spent two years at the University of Nebraska’s Theater Department. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Creative Writing and her MFA at Naropa University. Since 1995, she has been a resident of Denver, Colorado.
Stohlman started writing flash fiction in 2007 and co-founded Fast Forward Press. This press was dedicated to publishing flash fiction. She remained there until 2012. She edited three flash fiction anthologies, including Fast Forward: The Mix Tape. This was the first ever finalist for the Colorado Book Award in 2011.
In 2011 she co-founded the lounge metal band Kinky Mink with pianist Nick Busheff and drummer Scott Ryplewski and in 2012 they released their first full-length album, Kinky Mink. Current members of Kinky Mink include drummer Rory Reagan and guest performers.
