Nancy Angelo is one of the most popular and richest Artist who was born on October 8, 1953 in Carson City, Nevada, United States. Nancy Angelo was born October 8, 1953 in Carson City (Nevada, USA). She is an organizational psychologist. Prior to that, she was a performance and video artist and took part in the feminist movement in Los Angeles. She is most well-known for her co-founding The Feminist Art Workers, a collaborative performance art group, in 1976, with Candace Compton and Cheri Gaulke.

Angelo participated in An Oral Herstory of Lesbianism performed at the Woman’s Building in 1979 by Terry Wolverton. Angelo was not the only participant in the LA performance art scene. Jerri Allyn and Chutney Gunderson were also involved. Wolverton, at the time, was involved in the Lesbian Art Project at Woman’s Building. She proposed that Herstory be created to “chronicle lesbians’ lives.” There were ten workshops that taught performance skills and techniques and explored issues related to lesbianism.

After leaving Sisters of Survival and ending her association with the Woman’s Building, Angelo decided to continue her education and obtain a PhD in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. Currently, she lives in the Bay Area and provides organization development services as a part of Angelo + Garnets consulting firm.

Angelo began performing art shortly after she enrolled in the FSW. In 1976, Angelo co-founded Feminist Art Workers along with Cheri Gaulke and Laurel Klick. (later replaced later by Vanalyne green). Feminist Art Workers created a network of empowerment for women outside and within Los Angeles to help mobilize feminist education strategies in the field. FAW established Traffic in Women: A Feminist Vehicle (1978) in 1978. It was performed at several locations between Los Angeles, Nevada and Los Angeles. Before embarking on this project the group did research on the topic of prostitution as well as the actual trafficking in women between the two cities. FAW launched a more ambitious project in 1980 called Bill of Rights. This was a 15-state effort that the group did from 1980 to 1982. The project was initiated after a major protest in Washington, D.C. in 1978, when 100,000 people marched in the streets in support of equal rights. This was only one of many attempts by feminists from across the country to get ERA ratified by 1982.

Angelo and Compton produced Nun and Deviant in 1976. This film is widely considered to be the foundation of feminist video art. Angelo and Compton played the roles of nun (Angelo), and deviant (Compton), reflecting on “prototypical lesbian models” at the time. Angelo’s experimentation in performance art was also a part of her involvement in local video production. Angelo, Annette Hunt and Candace Compton founded the Los Angeles Women’s Video Center in the Woman’s Building. LWVC supported prominent feminist video-makers like Cheri Gaulke and Suzanne Lacy. 350 videotapes were made during the first ten years of LWVC’s existence.

In 1981, Angelo co-founded another performance group, Sisters of Survival (SOS) that focused on anti-nuclear issues. The group formed after the dissolution of Feminist Art Workers, when two former FAW members, Gaulke and Angelo, decided to join forces with members of another LA-based group, The Waitresses. The original lineup included Angelo, Gaulke, Jerri Allyn, Anne Gauldin, and Sue Maberry. As a part of their performance, the members of SOS “dressed in nun’s habits of all colors of the rainbow to represent an image of ‘global sisterhood.’”
