Naira Hovakimyan was a researcher at INRIA in France, Stuttgart University in Germany and Georgia Institute of Technology before joining the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s faculty in 2008. She also served as faculty of Aerospace and Ocean engineering at Virginia Tech from 2003 to 2008. At UIUC, she is the W. Grafton and Lillian B. Wilkins professor of mechanical science and engineering. She was appointed as the inaugural director of Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at CSL in 2015 by UIUC. She co-authored two books, ten chapters in books, and over 400 conference and journal papers.

Naira Hovakimyan earned her MS in Theoretical Mechanics in 1988 at Yerevan State University, Armenia. She was named Hans Fischer senior fellow of Technical University of Munich in 2014, and she received the Humboldt award for her lifetime achievements. She is a Fellow and Life Member of AIAA, Fellow IEEE, SIAM, AMS and SWE, ASME, ASME, and ISDG. Naira is the co-founder of IntelinAir and Chief Scientist.
