Nabil Salameh is one of the most popular and richest Singer- Songwriter who was born on January 6, 1962 in Tripoli, North Governorate, Lebanon. Nabil Salameh, eighth child of nine, was born in Tripoli, Lebanon. He was the seventh of nine children. His parents fled Jaffa in 1948, 14 years after his birth, to escape the Israeli state. They had lived there until then on their own land, which was later seized by Israelis. Nabil’s father, a UN officer and UNRWA supervisor for institutes for Palestinian refugees education was from Lebanon.

In 1990, Al Darawish took part in the Biennale des Jeunes Createurs d’Europe et de la Mediterranee in Marseille. They were chosen to perform at the Arezzo Wave musical festival in 1991, along with other artists from around the globe. Then they played at Carrefour de la Mediterranee (Thessaloniki, Greece).

In 1994, Nabil performed in Bari for the very first time with the Israeli singer Achinoam Nini aka Noa, with whom he has sung many times during his career.

In 1995, Al Darawish were guests at Musicultura for the sixth edition of Premio Città Recanati and to the acclaimed Concerto del Primo Maggio, a massive musical event held every year on Labour Day in Rome, with the participation of great Italian and international artists. In July 1995 the movie Trafitti da un raggio di sole was released, with Al Darawish signing the soundtrack and Nabil playing a part himself as an actor.

Al Darawish was founded by Salameh in 1988. They created their own style by using instruments from different parts of the Mediterranean. The band was greatly praised by the public for creating a rich melting pot that was flavored with different sounds and cultures. It was the first international music project in Italy, and it fueled more multi-ethnic experiences throughout the country. This was Salameh’s first step in a long and successful musical career.

Nabil Salameh (Tripoli, Lebanon 1962), also known as Nabil, or Nabil Bey, is a Palestinian singer/songwriter, musician, artist, journalist and founder of the international music bands Radiodervish, and Al Darawish.

Nabil studied at the Tripoli Greek Orthodox College. He moved to Romania to continue his studies. There he studied at the University of Bucharest during Nicolae Ceausescu’s time. In 1983, he went to Bari, Italy to study Electrical Engineering.

In 1993, Al Darawish recorded their first album Al Darawish, which was presented live from the auditorium of the national network RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana on Radio3. In the same year Al Darawish were guests at the Babylon festival in Iraq.
