Murray Hamilton Ross Thompson OAM, born 27 December 1953, is an ex-member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. From 1992 to his retirement in 2018, he served the Sandringham electorate. He is the son former Liberal Premier of Victoria Lindsay Thompson.
Between December 2002 and February 2008, he was a member of Parliament. He served as a Liberal frontbench member in a variety of portfolios in opposition.
In 2015 Thompson voted against banning anti abortion protesters from protesting outside abortion clinics.
Thompson retired at the 2018 Victorian state election.
Thompson was invited to a 1999 function where he heard about the Costello Abbott defamation trial. Thompson, an Australian rules footballer, was a Richmond midfielder until he had to retire from the VFL after 14 senior games.

Thompson attended Caulfield Grammar School, Melbourne. He was a captain of football (1971-72), a member of the debating team (1972-73), and was School Captain at Caulfield Grammar 1972. He was also a member of Caulfield Grammarians Cricket Club (1973-1980). Thompson received a Bachelor of Arts (1979), and a Bachelor of Laws (811) from Monash University. He was Student Representative on Monash University’s Law Faculty Ad Ho Committee on Professional Practice (1979), and Law Student Society Committee member (1979). He earned a Diploma of Education (1986), from Melbourne University, as part of his postgraduate studies.
Thompson was admitted to Victorian Bar in 1982. He established his own suburban practice, and worked as a lawyer before entering professional politics.
In 2008 Thompson voted against legalising abortion in Victoria.
