Thompson won the Ladies European Tour for the first time in 1980 at Tyrells Wood Golf Course, during the 1980 Carlsberg European Championships. Thompson has won nine Ladies European Tour championships in her professional career. Her last two wins were at the 1986 Ford Ladies’ Classic, and the 1986 Ladies Irish Open. She was awarded the Order of Merit for her performance in 1980 and 1983, which she won for the highest amount of prize money in the Ladies European Tour championships.

Muriel Natalie Thomson, born 12/12/1954 in Scotland, is an ex-scottish golfer. Thomson played amateur golf in Scotland, before joining the Ladies European Tour in 1979. She won nine championships during her time on the Ladies European Tour and was awarded the Order of Merit in 1983 and 1980.

Thomson was an amateur golfer and worked in banking. She won the North of Scotland championship in 1973-1974 and the Helen Holm championship in 1975-1976. Thomson also competed in team competitions for the 1977 Vagliano Trophy as well as the 1978 Curtis Cup. Thomson, who had left banking to become a professional golfer, joined the Women’s Professional Golf Association (now known as the Ladies European Tour).

In 2006, Thomson was awarded the Toby Sunderland Award.
