Mulalo Doyoyo is one of the most popular and richest Engineer who was born on August 13, 1970 in Venda, South Africa. Mulalo Doyoyo, a South African engineer and inventor, was born 13 August 1970.

In 1999, he defended his engineering doctoral thesis. His thesis was entitled “Experimental studies on subsonic penetration within silica glasses, ceramics”. To describe fragment ejecta behaviour, and predict the impact depth of projectiles in relation to impact velocity, he used granular material Physics. He noticed an unusual behaviour in the experimental observations and applied variational perturbation theory. This theory was used to explain and reveal the role of the rise in mass density due to the failures of brittle materials during dynamic compression. To enhance his applied mechanics studies, he was offered a position as a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1999. He taught ocean engineering at MIT after completing his postdoctoral research.

As of 2006, he became interested in doing research aligning with his homeland’s Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) He started work with his graduate students on green building and renewable energy. Between 2007 and 2009, he was appointed as a professor extraordinare and later a visiting research and innovation chair at the Tshwane University of Technology. This afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with local researchers on the RDP.

This collaboration inspired him to create Retecza (resource-driven technology concept center). During its inception in South Africa in 2008, the organisation welcomed cross-disciplinary researcher and industrialist participants from around the world. One of the outcomes of Retecza was the design and construction of a hydrogen motorbike named “Ahifambeni”.

Doyoyo wrote his honors thesis on the construction and design of mechanical equipment for investigating false brinelling in heavy-duty bearings used in electric motors. After completing his requirements for a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, Doyoyo was accepted by Brown University as a visiting undergraduate student. He took graduate courses in solid mechanics and materials science and applied mathematics. In 1995 and 1996, he earned master’s degrees in solid mechanics as well as applied mathematics.

In 1977, he began his education at Vondwe Lower Primary School. He then went on to Tshidimbini Higher Secondary School in 1981. In 1984, he joined Tshidimbini Secondary school where he studied till 1985. He enrolled at Mbilwi Secondary school in 1986. There he started a science club, and also a student newspaper called the tri-opinion. After matriculating in 1988, he was elected head boy of the school.

He was elected president of the student engineering council. Later, he founded Temescial (technology medicine and science for everyone), an organization that aims to expose underprivileged high school students to these fields. Temescial’s first workshop was held at the University of Venice in 1993.

He left MIT in 2004 to lecture at the school of civil and environmental engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He created the ultralight systems laboratory that was dedicated to experimental research on ultralight materials. He designed and installed a novel biaxial universal testing machine based on a 200 kN frame. Then, he initiated research on lattice truss structures for application in hydrogen storage in automobiles.
