Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero was born on May 1, 1968, in Agwan Kaura in Zaria in Kaduna State. Yero received his education from the LEA Primary School in Kaura, 1974-1980, Government Secondary School Ikara 1980-1985, and Government Secondary School Zaria 1985-1986. He then obtained a Diploma of Banking from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He earned a B.Sc in Accounting in 1991, and then he completed it with a Masters in Business Administration. Yero is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and began his career as an Assistant accountant in the Ogun State Purchasing Corp National Youth Service Corps between 1991-92. He was then employed at Ahmadu Bello University as the Higher Executive Officer Bursary Department, before moving to Nigerian Universal Bank Limited in the same year as an Accountant Supervisor. He joined Nalado Nigerian Limited in 1997 as Chief Accountant. In 2007, he rose to the rank of Director Finance and Administration.
On 31 May 2018, he was publicly paraded by EFCC for corruption charges, making him one the most prominent political figures paraded in Nigeria by EFCC.
He lost his bid for re-election in April 2015 to the opposition candidate Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, All Progressive Congress.

Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, a Nigerian politician, was born 1 May 1968. He served as Kaduna State’s Commissioner of Finance between 2007 and May 2010. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa appointed him as the Deputy governor after Namadi Sambo became Vice President of Nigeria. After Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa’s death in a helicopter accident, he was elected Governor of Kaduna State.
He was elected Alhaji Namadi Sammbo’s 2007 Deputy Governor and appointed the Commissioner of Finance between 2007-May 2010. Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa selected him to fill the vacancy for the Deputy Governor seat. He was elected Governor of Kaduna State in December 2012 after Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa died in a helicopter accident in Bayelsa State.
