Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 9, 1951 in Rafah, United States. Marzook’s parents came from Yibna in Mandatory Palestine (now Yavne in Israel). After the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, they fled their homeland and were forced to flee to the Rafah camp on the Gaza Strip. Marzook was there born on the 9th of January 1951. After graduating from high school in Gaza he studied engineering in Cairo, before moving to the Persian Gulf in search of work. He received a master’s in construction management from Colorado State University, and a doctorate of industrial engineering from Louisiana Tech.
Marzook was designated a Specially Designed Terrorist in 1995 by the U.S Treasury Department. He is currently listed on the renamed Treasury department Specially designated National list under various spellings such as Dr. Musa Abu-Marzuq or Sa’id Abu-Marzuq.
In 2002, a federal grand jury in Dallas returned an indictment against Marzook for conspiring to violate U.S. laws that prohibit dealings in terrorist funds. The indictment alleged that Marzook had conspired with the Richardson, Texas- based InfoCom Corporation and five of its employees to hide his financial transactions with the computer company. He allegedly invested $250,000 in InfoCom, with Infocom to make payments to Marzook based on the company’s net profits or losses.
In 2004, a U.S. court indicted him in absentia for coordinating and financing Hamas activities.
Marzook was detained in JFK Airport in the US in the middle of the 1990s. However, no formal charges were brought against him. Israel requested that the United States extradite Marzook two months after his arrest. He was represented by Stanley L. Cohen. After two years of fighting his case, the court decided for his extradition. Israel then dropped the extradition request. The United States released him without bringing any formal charges against him. However, they did not want him to stay and contacted many Arab countries to grant Marzook residency. Except for Jordan, all refused to comply with U.S. demands. Cohen continues to represent Marzook legally.
