Mordechai Yogev, Hebrew: mardKHay’mvoTiy’ yvogeb – 22 February 1956), is a former IDF Colonel and Israeli politician. He was a member the Knesset to protect the Jewish Home from 2013 to 2020. He was the former Secretary General of Bnei Akiva and Chairman of the Company for the Reconstruction and Development of the Jewish Quarter. He also served as Deputy and Acting Chief of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council.
Yogev declared on 15 January 2020 that his intention to leave politics was after it was revealed that he would rank 11th on Yamina’s list for 2020 Israeli legislative elections. Sarah Beck, a newcomer, was ahead of him. Yogev responded to the announcement that Rafi Peretz’s Jewish Home had “lost it way”.
Yogev sustained injuries and was attacked during an attempted evacuation of Amona in 2006. After his injury, Yogev sued officer EyalPeri and was awarded NIS 156,000 in settlement with police. 2008 saw Yogev become deputy to Avi Roeh, Head of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. The Council Plenum unanimously approved Yogev’s nomination to this position.

Mordechai Vagenberg was raised in Haifa’s Nave Shaanan neighbourhood. He attended Rambam Elementary school in Haifa and completed his high school education at the Bnei Akiva Kfar Haroeh Yeshiva. Motti volunteered to serve Sayeret Shaked in 1974 after he enlisted in the IDF. Motti was trained in combat soldier, infantry squad commander, and reconnaissance courses. After completing the Infantry Officers Course, he returned to Shaked as a Company Commander. Later, he was the commander of the 202nd Paratroopers Battalion and led it during Operation Menorah. Yogev was then discharged from IDF and studied one year at Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva. After his discharge, Yogev returned to IDF and served as the commander of the Sayeret Matkal Training troop in Operation Movil. Later, he fought in the Lebanon War with the unit and was discharged again from the IDF. He was contacted by GOC Central Command Amnon Likin-Shahak and he returned to IDF as deputy commandant of the 890th Battlion. Later, he was commander of the 202nd Paratroopers Battalion which he commanded during combat in South Lebanon. Yogev was the commander of the Maglan Unit and the Efraim Brigade during the First Intifada. He was an instructor in IDF courses for battalion and company commanders and Chief of Staff in reserve service. Yogev was promoted to the rank of colonel after completing his IDF service.
Yonah Goodman was discharged from the IDF in 2000. Yogev took over as Secretary General of Bnei Akiva. Eitan Mo Yosef succeeded him in 2003. Yogev served as chairman of the Company for the Reconstruction and Development of the Jewish Quarter for three years. Yogev also served as an alternate director. Yogev was part of the committee that selected the design for the commemorative coin to the Hurva Synagogue.
