Moray Callum is one of the most popular and richest Engineer who was born on November 19, 1958 in Dumfries, Scotland, United Kingdom. Moray S. Callum, a Scottish auto designer, was born 19 November 1958. He is currently Vice President of Design at Ford Motor Company. From 1999 to 2019, his elder brother Ian Callum served as Jaguar’s Design Director.

After overseeing Mazda’s success as a sporty and dynamic brand, Callum was transferred by J Mays to Ford as the Design Director for Ford’s North American passenger cars. He reported to Peter Horbury starting in May 2006. This was in conjunction with Horbury being appointed Executive Design Director for Ford North American Brands. It was Ford’s attempt consolidate its Red, White & Bold’ design strategy to bring new design to its growing car range in North America. Laurens van den Acker replaced Callum at Mazda, while Patrick Schiavone, his predecessor, was named North American designer for SUVs and pick ups at Ford.

In 2014, Callum was promoted to Vice President, Design, Ford Motor Company, replacing the retiring J Mays and charged with responsibility of all concept and production vehicles for the Ford and Lincoln brands globally. He unveiled the 2015 sixth generation Ford Mustang and the 2017 second generation Ford GT.

Callum was promoted to head Mazda global design on September 7, 2001. His team included Tsutomu Matano (the designer of the Mazda MX-5). Callum was given the task of revitalizing the Mazda range. It was considered bland by many in the 1990s. Callum’s efforts to create a consistent brand image that included ‘crispy black interiors and red-lit instruments’ and exteriors that had ‘edgy forms that were emotional and almost biologic – part flame and part flower, expressive the company’s sporting image’ was what was successful. He was responsible for the 2005 MX-5’s daunting redesign and also worked on nearly every Mazda passenger car, including the 2006 Mazda5. He also led the design of Mazda’s sporty crossovers the 2007 CX-7, and CX-9. These were shown in the 2005 Mazda MX-Crossport concept. He also helped to produce the Washu (Detroit 2003), Ibuki(Tokyo 2003) and Kabura (Detroit 06) concept cars.

After graduating, Callum began his car design career at Chrysler in 1982. He then joined the PSA Peugeot Citroen advanced workshop in Poissy in France. There he contributed to the design of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Callum joined Ghia in 1988/1989 as a consultant designer. He contributed to the Ghia Via concept 1989 and the Aston Martin Lagonda Vignale. Ghia also provided design consulting to Jaguar.

Ford hired Callum in 1995 to work on North American cars. He had previously worked on several projects at Ghia. He was involved in several notable North American projects, including the facelift for the 2000 Ford Taurus. Some critics have mischievously cited the front grille design of his brother’s 2006 Jaguar XK design as the inspiration. This is not the Jaguar E-Type that inspired them both. He was also involved in the Ford Windstar and Mercury Villager, Super Duty pickup truck trucks, Ford Excursion, Ford EX, and the Ford EX concept.

In May 2009, Horbury returned to Volvo Cars and Callum was promoted to Executive Director, Ford Americas design, with overall responsibility for American trucks and passenger cars, including Lincoln. During this time, he oversaw the design and launch of numerous American products, for example: the 2011 fifth generation Ford Explorer, 2013 second generation Ford Fusion, 2013 second generation Lincoln MKZ, and 2013 second generation Ford EcoSport.
