She was a junior speed skater and finished 19th at the 1981 World Junior Speed Skating Championships. The Dutch Speed Skating Union announced at the 1981 UCI Track Cycling World Championships that Kauffmann had been removed from the national selection due to her excessive focus on track cycling. She competed in the KNSB Dutch Allround Championships 1982, 1983, and 1984 as an elite skater. She was seventh in both 1982 and 1983. In 1983, she finished ninth at the KNSB Dutch Sprint Champions.
