She was a member of the Antwerp Provincial Council from 1994 to 2001. She was the president of Antwerp Centre for Social Welfare from 2001 to 2006. Later, she was the head of Antwerp’s social policy, diversity, and offices. She was elected president of the CPAS in 2007.
