Nakanishi was a AJW rookie for the first month of her career. She won her first title, the AJW Junior Championship, on March 23, 1997. After several AJW veterans quit the promotion, Nakanishi finally got her chance to break through. Despite her small stature and inexperience, she was recognized as one the best workers in the promotion. On October 18, she and Kumiko Makawa faced Las Cachorras Orientales, Etsuko Mita (and Mima Shimoda), in Yokohama. Maekawa was without her regular tag team partner Tomoko Watsube, so she had to be replaced with Nakanishi. Although Nakanishi was pin by Shimoda, her performance was well-received. Chris Zavisa, of the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter, wrote that “[she] put in a performance worthy a five year veteran ranked amongst the world’s top ten workers” and that “she has more potential than any new prospect this ten years.” Nakanishi completed 1997 with a team effort with Nanae Takahashi, winning the AJW Tag Team Championships on November 23rd and then the AJW Championships on December 12. AJW named Nakanishi their 1997 MVP at the end of her second season in professional wrestling. Nakanishi was awarded the AJW Championship, AJW Tag Team Championship, and she defeated Chaparita Asari, July 11, 1999 to win her first title in the World Women’s Wrestling Association, the World Super Lightweight Championship.

Nakanishi formed an idol group called Kiss no Sekai with fellow AJW youths Nanae Takahashi, Miho Wakizawa and other AJW kids in 2000. Later, the group recorded and released a musical album together. Nakanishi, Takahashi, and their team continued to work together in the ring. On July 16, 2000, they won AJW’s top tag title, the WWWA World Tag Team Championship. They defeated Las Cachorras Orientales. The title was lost to LCO by the team, NanaMomo after a six month reign. In 2001, Nakanishi won Japan’s Grand Prix. She then began to chase the All Pacific Championship. Nakanishi, a rare appearance by New Japan Pro Wrestling (a male promotion that normally does not have any female wrestling matches), teamed up with Kaoru Ito in a tag-team match at Tokyo Dome. They defeated Yumiko Hotta and Manami Toyota. NanaMomo won the WWWA World Tag Team Championship, beating Takako Inoue and Rumi Kazama. Nakanishi vacated her All Pacific Championship on September 8, 2002 to focus on the WWWA World Single Championship, which is the top title in AJW. She defeated Kaoru Ito, a larger wrestler, to win the WWWA World Single Championship. Tokyo Sports magazine named Nakanishi 2002 joshi wrestlers of the Year at the end. After a seven month reign at the top, Nakanishi was defeated by Ayako Hamada in the WWWA World Single Championship on May 11, 2003. This was the main event of AJW’s 35th anniversary celebration. Two months later, Nakanishi announced her resignation from AJW.

On March 19, 2011, Nakanishi, billed under her married name Momoe Oe, made her first professional wrestling appearance in six years, when she appeared at an Ice Ribbon event, which led to the promotion’s founder, Emi Sakura, challenging her to an exhibition match. The match took place two days later at Ice Ribbon March 2011 in Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall and ended in a 1–1 draw. Originally billed as a three-minute exhibition match, the match ended up lasting closer to five minutes, with Oe winning the first fall with her signature finishing maneuver, the Momo☆Latch, before being pinned for the draw with a la magistral. After the time-limit had already expired, Nakanishi pinned Sakura for another three count with a bridging German suplex.
