She is best known for her vegetarian cookbook, the Moosewood Cookbook (1974), inspired by the Moosewood Restaurant she helped create, but which she left in 1978. She later authored and illustrated several other best-selling vegetarian cookbooks, including The Enchanted Broccoli Forest (1982), Still Life with Menu (1988), and Vegetable Heaven and Sunlight Cafe (1997); three children’s cookbooks (Pretend Soup (1994), Honest Pretzels (1999), and Salad People (2005) and recently co- authored (with Walter Willett) Eat, Drink and Weigh Less: A Flexible and Delicious Way to Shrink Your Waist Without Going Hungry. She has lectured extensively on nutrition and hosted a cooking program on the Public Broadcasting Service.
