Mohammad Naciri is one of the most popular and richest Diplomat who was born on July 31, 1973 in Rabat, Morocco. His maternal grandfather, Mohamed Ayoub (a senior member the Egyptian government and a governor of Eastern governorate between 1970 and 1975) is his maternal grandfather. He was also a founding member the new delegation party in 1978.
In 2008-2009, he was UNDP Kuwait’s acting resident representative. He worked on women’s empowerment, witnessing the election and assisting in the formation of the first female parliamentarians in Kuwait’s history. He was responsible for the transparency index and the updating of the Central Bank of Kuwait’s fiscal policy. He also worked with Kuwait to address the effects of the destruction of oil fields and the Iraq War on the environment.
Under his leadership, UN Women and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) launched regional research on the costing of violence. He has spearheaded work on engaging men and boys as agents of change in the region, including through issuing a report on masculinities – the first of its kind in the Arab World.
In 2015 UN Women partnered with Dubai Lynx, the largest regional advertising festival to highlight violence against women, and encouraged young creatives to come up with a video brief on the issue. The regional office shed light on gender taboos through a mother’s day campaign which went viral both in the region and beyond. The campaign, highlighting the shame associated with saying one’s mother’s name, resulted in thousands posting on social media in honor of their mothers.
Naciri was a junior professional officer programme in Cambodia for the International Organization For Migration. He lobbied to recognize the atrocities of human trafficking taking place in Cambodia and supported a US Congress public hearing for the US state department report on trafficking in persons in 2003. As a result, Naciri raised US$10million for IOM’s trafficking work from the US government. After his experience in Cambodia, Naciri was named chief of mission for IOM Kuwait. He was tasked to establish IOMs mission there. He worked closely with the Kuwaiti authorities to ensure that domestic workers were included under the labor code. Naciri also managed IOM’s Southern Iraq response from Kuwait. During the 2005 elections, he was also the deputy director of the out-of-country voting for Iraq. Naciri was appointed IOM emergency coordinator in 2006 during the Lebanon War.

Mohammad Naciri, Arabic: mHmd.lnSry, was born 31 July 1973, romanized as Mhmd alnasry), is the director for the Arab States and Asia Pacific Regions of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. He is the first and only man to be elected UN Women’s regional director. Naciri is a senior United Nations official who has been with the UN for over two decades. He was previously the deputy regional director for Arab States and UN Women before he took up his current position. He is a member of the long-standing Naciri family. Naciri is involved in addressing religious and cultural norms from a gendered viewpoint, creating space to partner with religious institutions like Rabita Mohammedia Des Oulemas. He also spearheaded efforts to engage men and boys in order for change in the region. This includes the publication of a report about masculinities, which was the first such report in the Arab World. Naciri is an advocate for the arts. He supports young artists from the Arab World.
Naciri holds a master’s in international policy and public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government (United States), 1997-1999. He holds a second master’s in social anthropology, from the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Oxford, United Kingdom (2001-2000), where he was a Chevening Scholar, and a third master’s in business administration, from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Alexandria (Egypt), 1995-1997.
From 2009 to 2012, Naciri was the deputy country director of the United Nations Development Programme in Yemen. During this time he managed a comprehensive development portfolio including good governance, poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability in line with UNDP strategic priorities and the Yemen development framework.
