Mohammad-Ali Najafi is one of the most popular and richest Mathematician who was born on January 13, 1952 in Tehran, Tehran Province, Iran. Najafi was a Tehranian born on 13 January 1952. He was a top-ranked student in the Iranian university entrance exam. The Sharif University of Technology awarded him a bachelor of science in mathematics. He enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s graduate program after completing his bachelor’s degree. In 1976, he received his master’s degree in mathematics and the final grade was A+. However, he dropped out of the PhD program in 1978 due to the Iranian revolution.
Hassan Rouhani nominated him as the minister of education. The Parliament didn’t approve his appointment on the 15th of August 2013. He was supported by 142 votes, 133 against and 9 abstentions. On 17 August, he was elected head of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization. Najafi, however, resigned on 30 January 2014 after a series of health issues. This was the first major change in Rouhani’s cabinet.
Najafi resigned on 14 March 2018 after a video surfaced of him watching girls dancing, which offended Iranian clerics. However, according to one of the council members, the resignation was due to medical problems.
On 28 May 2019, Najafi’s second wife Mitra Ostad was found dead in the bathtub of her home in Sa’adat Abad’s Armita Tower. Iranian Police announced she was killed by gunshots, with a bullet in her heart and another in her arm. Hours later, Najafi confessed to murder by referral to police. Head of Tehran police’s criminal investigation department said he was in detention and discovered the weapons he shot with. A video was also broadcast on these details. On 30 July 2019, he was sentenced to death for murdering his wife. However, he was temporally released from prison on 28 August 2019 after family of his former wife satisfied.
Mostafa Chamran was his advisor. From 1981 to 1984, he was the minister of higher learning in the cabinet led by Mir-Hossein Mousavi. He was appointed minister of education by President Hashemi Rafsanjani in 1989 and served until 1997. He was named vice president and head the Planning and Budget Organization in 1997 by President Mohammad Khatami. However, Mohammad Reza Aref was elected to succeed him. From 2001 to 2005, Najafi served as a senior advisor to President Khatami. Najafi was elected to Tehran City Council in 2006 Iranian City and Village Council elections. He was the leader of a group called “The Union of reformists” y’tlf SLHTlbn. This was the first general election that Najafi had run in Iran. In 2013, he was not seeking a reelection. Mahdi Karroubi was also his advisor. He cofounded the Executives of Construction Party.

Mohammad-Ali Najafi, Persian: mHmdly, njfy, was born 13 January 1952. He is an Iranian mathematician, reformist politician, and was Mayor of Tehran from April 2018 to April 2018. He was a cabinet portfolio holder in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s. He is also a former professor of mathematics at Sharif University of Technology.
Najafi, who was a member of the Iranian Revolution of 1979, returned to Iran in 1979 to become a faculty member at Isfahan University of Technology. He also served as the university’s chair from 1980 to 1981. From 1984 to 1988, he was a faculty member in the Sharif University of Technology’s department of mathematics sciences. In 1988, he became a government official.
On 21 July 2017, Najafi was the candidate with the most votes among the seven top candidates for Mayor of Tehran and on 10 August 2017, unanimously elected as the new mayor by the City Council of Tehran defeating Elaheh Koulaei and Mohsen Mehralizadeh. The decision was unofficial, and became effective when the council convened its first official meeting on 23 August. After his office-taking took longer than usual, the council appointed a caretaker on 27 August. Hours later and minutes to midnight the Interior Ministry approved his credentials and he took office.
