Mohamed Apandi bin Ali, a Malaysian politician, was born 11 February 1950 and served as the Attorney General of Malaysia between 2015-2018. Since 15 May 2018, he was on leave by Prime Minister Mahathir Mhamad and was prevented from leaving Malaysia. The National Palace of Malaysia announced on 5 June 2018 with the date of 4 Juni 2018 that His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong had granted Apandi’s termination as Attorney General. Tommy Thomas will assume the role.

On 15 February 2007, he was sent to Kuala Lumpur’s High Court of Malaya. He was then appointed as a judge of the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya on 14 April

2010. On 30 September 2013, he was made a Federal Court Judge. After the death of Abdul Gani Patail, he was elected Attorney General of Malaysia.

Apandi was appointed in 1980 as the legal advisor to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. He then started his own business in 1982. Apandi entered civil service again in 2003. He started as a Judicial Commission at the Kuantan High Court before being confirmed as an official judge on 21/12/04.

Apandi graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London in 1972. He was awarded his Bar-at Law from the Inner Temple in London in 1973. He was awarded the Certificate of Legal Drafting by the Institute of Advance Legal Studies in London in 1981.

From 1982 to 1991, he was a member of the United Malays National Organisation. Apandi was even selected by UMNO to be the Barisan Nasional candidate (BN) for the Pengkalan Chepa parliamentary constitut in the 1990 general elections. He began his legal career as a magistrate at the Magistrates’ Court, Kuala Terengganu in 1973. In 1975, he was appointed as director of the Legal Aid Bureau in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. He later held the position of Deputy Public Prosecutor for Kelantan and Terengganu from 1977 to 1980.
