Mo Tae-bum is one of the most popular and richest Speed Skater who was born on February 15, 1989 in Seoul, South Korea. Mo Tae-bum was the son of Mo Yeong-yeol, his father, and Jeong Yeonhwa, who were both born in Seoul in 1989. Mo Eun-yeong is his elder sister. Mo began skating at the age of three, when his father suggested it to him. Mo was a member of the school’s skating team and won a cup against Lila Elementary School. Lila had previously dominated the age category at the time. Mo has been close friends with Lee Seung-hoon since then. He is a fellow speed skater and also won a Silver and a Gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Mo became more and more ill as he grew older. However, his mother advised him to keep skating, even though he was close to giving up. Mo and his family now reside in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.

In 2006, he won two Junior World Championships. However, he did not win any other events until 2009. He won gold at the Winter Universiade in 2009 in the 1500 m and 1000 m events. He was not well-known by the international community before the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. However, he was the first Korean to win the gold medal in long track speed skating and the silver in the 1000m race. He was fourteenth in the world for the 500 m race, which was quite a surprise. Mo was congratulated by Lee Myungbak for his speed skating achievements after these victories.

Prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics, Mo had never won a non-junior race. His first adult competition was in the 2007 South Korean Single Distance Championships. He did not place in the top ten in an individual event at the 2008–09 World Cup, finishing in tenth place overall. At the 2009 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships, he came in eighth place in the 1000 m event with a time of 1:10.11, and eleventh place with a time of 1:48.07 in the 1500 m event.

As of 2010, Mo is a junior at Korea National Sport University.

He attended the 2006 South Korean Sprint Championship. He competed in the 500 m and 1000 m Samalog events, as well as the 1000 m at the 2006 South Korean Single Distance Championships. His time was 1:13.99. At the 2006 World Junior Speed Skating Championships, Erfurt, he took first place in both 500 m and 1500 m.
