Mito Elias was a Praia native. – Santiago, Cape Verde. Between 1989 and 1992, he studied art in Arco- Lisbon – Portugal. Since 1989, he has lived in and worked in the Diaspora. He developed an original imagery language from the search for Creole oral tradition and tales. This symbiotic style, which combines wash, writing, and multimedia, has been named Mare Calamus. Since 1983, Mito Elias has presented his work, drawings, paintings, writings and video-graphs regularly, traveling to every corner of the globe. Many exhibitions have featured him, including Mundial Bank – USA, BNU (Macao) – China, Afro Brasil Museum Sao Paulo, Brazil, Regional Government of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and Presidency of the Cape Verde Republic. Also, the Embassy of Cape Verde, Lisbon, and the Ethnic Communities’ council of Victoria, Australia. Since 2013, he lives in Melbourne, Australia. Together with his wife, a visual artist, he runs Fandata Studio. He is a Visual Arts tutor and Community facilitator for many projects in Melbourne.
