Misbun Sidek is one of the most popular and richest Badminton Player who was born on February 17, 1960 in Banting, Malaysia. Datuk Mohmed Mohd Sidek DMSM AMN SBSD, born 17 February 1960, is a former Malaysian badminton players. He is the oldest of the five famous Sidek brothers. He is the current director of the Malaysian junior badminton teams.
Misbun lost the 1982 Badminton World Cup title to Liem Swie King, despite defeating Prakash Padukone and Morten Frost on his way to victory. The “S” Service was also a well-known trademark of Misbun. It caused an erratic shuttle movement that confused officials and opponents. In 1982, the International Badminton Federation (IBF), banned the service after much controversy.
In January 1985, the Sidek family made history when they became the largest sibling group ever to represent the country abroad in the same sporting event. Misbun, Razif, Jalani, Rahman and Rashid were all selected to compete at the Hong Kong Open.
In 1986, Misbun reached the final of the prestigious All England Open for the only time in his career but was beaten decisively there by Morten Frost.
Misbun won the 1981 German Open his first international title. He was instrumental in helping Malaysia’s national team win the Silver medal at SEA Games. He defeated Liem Swie King, Indonesia’s All England champion and the country’s top player, in the team event. Misbun was awarded Malaysia’s Sportsman of the year for his achievements in badminton. This feat was repeated two years later.

His father Mohd Sidek envisioned his children as badminton aces, starting with Misbun. Misbun was seven years old when he began to train with his father at the badminton court right in front of their home in Kampung Kanchong Daat, Banting Selangor.
