He also served as the Chairman of the Writers Union of Azerbaijan. He advocated for Azerbaijani to be made an official language in a country which only recognized Russian as its national tongue.

As the Chairman of the Writers Union of Azerbaijan, he was replaced by Anar Razev.

He moved to Baku with the father when he was seven years of age.
