Miodrag Linta is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 26, 1969 in Karlovac, Croatia. Miodrag Linta, Serbian Cyrillic: Miodrag Linta; was born 1969) is an activist and politician in Serbia. He is the President of the Coalition of Refugee Associations in the Republic of Serbia as well as the Serb Democratic Forum. This forum represents the interests of Serbs who were expelled from Croatia in the Yugoslav Wars of the 90s. Since 2012, he has been a member of Serbia’s National Assembly. He is a member of Serbian Progressive Party’s parliamentary group.

In May 2011, he wrote an open letter to Belgrade’s Croatian Embassy, expressing regret that the Croatian Parliament had not made a declaration regarding respect for expelled Serbs. “Unfortunately, Serbs living in Croatia are still treated like second-class citizens,” he was quoted as saying at that time. The Croatian authorities have not shown the will to find a lasting and comprehensive solution to the refugee problem. Linta wrote an open letter to Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, shortly after that. She asked for her help in this matter.

Linta received the nineteenth position on the Progressive Party’s Let’s Get Serbia Moving electoral list in the 2012 Serbian parliamentary election; during the campaign, he said that he joined the Progressive coalition because of his dissatisfaction with the Boris Tadić government’s handling of refugee issues. The Progressive-led list won seventy-three mandates and became the dominant presence in a new coalition government after the election; Linta was elected and served with the government’s parliamentary majority.

Linta expressed concern in late 2013 that pro-Ustaša beliefs were becoming normalized in Croatia, with anti-Serb sentiments being prevalent among some social groups. The following year, he criticized Croatian president Grabar- Kitarović for saying that Serbs who lived in Croatia were in fact Croats, a statement he described as chauvinist and provocative. On another occasion, he described the Croatian state’s actions against its Serb communities in the early 1990s as genocidal, saying, “Mass crimes against Serbs… were part of the Croatian leaders’ plan aimed at eliminating Serbs so they would disappear from areas where they lived for centuries.

Linta was the leader of the Serb Democratic Forum that filed war crime charges against the Croatian state prosecutor in May 2010. He was alleged to be responsible for the ethnic cleansing in Serbia of 26 villages in 1991. Later, Linta welcomed the decision by Serbian prosecutors in indicting Croatian officials for war crime committed against Serbs at Vukovar in the same year.

Linta was a prominent voice in calling for prosecution of Croatian officials accused of war crimes against Serbs in the early 1990s conflict between Serbia, Croatia, and has attempted to uphold the property and political rights of Serbs who were forced from their Croatian homes during the conflict.

Linta encouraged Croatian Serb refugees to take part in 2009 Croatian elections. This was to allow Serb representatives to hold positions of local authority in the country and to protect minority rights. In November 2011, Linta and other leaders of the Serb community were prohibited from entering Croatia to attend an election rally organized by Our Party from Borovo, Vukovar. Their presence could cause disturbance to the public order and upset residents, according to the Croatian ministry. Linta protested against the decision and called for the condemnation of the ministry’s actions by the Croatian government. His response was supported in part by the leadership of the Progressive Party.

He welcomed the conviction of Croatian lieutenant general Ante Gotovina by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in April 2011, saying that the ruling acknowledged that there was ethnic cleansing perpetrated against Serbs in Croatia. He subsequently led a protest march through Belgrade after Gotovina’s conviction was overturned in late 2012, and he condemned Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović’s decision to appoint Gotovina as an advisor in 2015.
