Minori Hayakari (Zao Shou Shi Ji) was born 29 November 1972. She is a Japanese track and cross-country athlete. Her personal record of 9:33.93 is the Japanese record. She has won six Japanese national titles, including the 2005 title.
She won the first Japanese women’s steeplechase title in 2006 and was Asia’s representative at the 2006 IAAF World Cup. She finished 77th at the World Cross Country in 2006, her last appearance at the competition. She was again the national champion and set a Japanese record of 9:38.68 (although her Asian record was broken by several Chinese runners). She was selected again for the national team at 2007 World Championships in Athletics in Osaka. However, she fell mid-race, and had to be escorted off the track. Japan’s first Olympic female representative in steeplechase at 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also set a new national record, running 9:33.93 at the FBK Games that year. She finished second to Li Zhenzhu at 2009 East Asian Games, after running her season’s best time of 9:39.28 in heats of 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
In regional competition, she was the bronze medallist at the 2010 Asian Games and took the continental title at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships. She is a five-time participant at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and a two-time medallist at the East Asian Games (1999 and 2009).
In June 2011, the 38-year-old Hayakari won her sixth straight national title in the 3,000 steeplechase with a solo run completed in 9:52.98. In the following month, she claimed her first continental title at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe, beating Asian Games champion Sudha Singh to take the gold medal in a championships record time. Hayakari ran at her fourth straight world steeplechase at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, but was seventh in her heat and again she did not make the final.
After the introduction of the World Championships 2005 in steeplechase, she became the first female international steeplechaser. She also set an Asian record. She was a part of the World Championship steeplechase events from 2005 to 2011, and she represented Japan at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the women’s steeplechase.

From the late 1990s to 2005, Hayakari was consistently ranked among the top three middle-distance runners at the Japanese Athletics Championships. She set a record 800 m time of 2:07.93 in Osaka and represented Japan at 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships. In 2005, she also ran in the short course at the World Cross Country Championships.
